Discover the heritage craft of tatting in this beginner-friendly workshop. Traditionally worked with a shuttle, tatting is a lace-making technique created from a small number of beautifully structured stitches.

In this 1.5-hour session we begin with needle tatting, working at a larger scale using a handmade wooden needle and chunky wool. This makes the structure of the stitches easy to see and understand, providing a strong foundation for finer thread work and traditional shuttle tatting.

You will learn the basic tatting stitch and how rings, chains and picots are formed. During the class you will create a bold tatted motif, which you will take home along with the wooden needle and wool used in the session.

This workshop is designed as a gateway into tatting—whether you wish to continue with finer materials, progress to shuttle tatting, or simply enjoy learning.
